§ The Prime MinisterThere have been seven principal private secretaries to the Prime Minister since 1962, not counting the present incumbent. Four of them have or will subsequently become permanent secretaries, after intervals of seven years, two years, four months and four months respectively after leaving 10 Downing Street.
