HC Deb 11 November 1982 vol 31 c218W
Mr. Proctor

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he plans any further measures to assist the Metropolitan Police in their maintenance of law and order in Lambeth, London in the light of recent disorders; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Whitelaw

As I said in my speech opening the debate on urban affairs on 5 November, I believe that the events in Brixton earlier last week bear out the reality of the achievement that has been made in providing an effective response to the policing problems of the inner city and action further to improve police service and community support. I shall continue to support the measures which promote that achievement.
