asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will update to 1982 the information on tax-free income and supplementary benefit and family income supplement levels provided in his reply of 14 May 1981 to the hon. Member for the Isle of Ely (Mr. Freud), Official Report, c. 333–4.

The updated figures will be as follows with effect from week commencing 22 November 1982:

  1. (a) Tax free income available from the married man's tax allowance and child benefit for a married couple with two children under 11—£58.72 a week.
  2. (b) Supplementary Benefit 'requirements' figure for a married couple with two children aged 4 and 6—£61.10 a week.
  3. (c) Prescribed amount for family income supplement for a married couple with two children—£91.50 a week.

The basis of calculation is as indicated in the previous reply.
