HC Deb 11 November 1982 vol 31 c237W
Mr. Austin Mitchell

asked the Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what historic rights have been recognised and for which species on (a) the Yorkshire coast from Flamborough to Hornsea, (b) the Yorkshire coast from Hornsea to Spurn and (c the Lincolnshire coast.

Mr. Buchanan-Smith

In relation to the arrangements envisaged for the period after 1 January 1983 to which my right hon. Friend referred in his statement to the House on 27 October, in the six to 12-mile belt in the stretch of coast referred to by the hon. Member rights would be available only for herring fishing by French vessels between Flamborough Head and Spurn Head.

Mr. Austin Mitchell

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food whether the word "rights" in his statement, 27 October, Official Report, c. 1051, on reduction or eradication of historic rights within the 12-mile limit over 73 per cent. of the coast line where those rights currently exist, applies to the generalised rights given in the Treaty of Accession or the specific rights referred to in the London convention.

Mr. Peter Walker

As my statement made clear, the figure I quoted referred to the future position compared with existing rights whether stemming originally from the Treaty of Accession or the London convention.
