HC Deb 11 November 1982 vol 31 c208W
Mr. Alfred Morris

asked the Secretary of State for Defence how many Servce men who served with the task force in the South Atlantic have since left Her Majesty's Forces; how many of them had their engagements extended because of the Falklands conflict; and how many he expects to be discharged from the Services because of disabilities sustained in the conflict.

Mr. Blaker

A total of 27 officers and 155 other ranks who served in the South Atlantic have left the Royal Navy, Royal Marines and Royal Air Force. These departures include completion of fixed engagements and redundancy as well as voluntary retirements. Figures for Army personnel could be obtained only at disproportionate cost.

A total of 50 officers and 255 other ranks from the Royal Navy, Royal Marines and Royal Air Force had their engagements extended because of the conflict. No one in the Army was thus affected.

No one has been medically discharged because of injuries sustained in the Falklands conflict, and it is not possible to give an estimate of how many will be.
