HC Deb 11 November 1982 vol 31 c205W
Mr. Ennals

asked the Secretary of State for Defence what is the latest estimate of the total cost of fighting the Falklands war, of replacing all equipment, ships and aircraft lost and of maintaining a garrison in the South Atlantic for the foreseeable future.

Mr. Blaker

For the latest estimates of the costs of the campaign and of replacing equipment, I refer the right hon. Member to my reply to the hon. Member for Salford, East (Mr. Allaun) of 28th October 1982.—[Vol. 29, c.473–74.] Final decisions on the size of the garrison and the associated investment in infrastructure and equipment have not yet been taken, but an additional £424 million has been provided for 1983–84 to cover garrison costs, including capital expenditure.
