asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what Her Majesty's Government consider a fair net contribution by the United Kingdom to the European Economic Community which might form the basis of a permanent budget settlement.

The Government continue to believe that the United Kingdom's net contribution to the Community budget should be modest.
