asked the Secretary of State for Employment if he will list those organisations and bodies which he intends to consult concerning the proposal to amend the Equal Pay Act.

My Department has already consulted the following organisations on our proposal to amend the Equal Pay Act in the light of the recent European Court judgment:

  • National Federation of the Self Employed and Small Businesses Ltd.
  • Smaller Firms Council (CBI)
  • Union of Independent Companies
  • Institute of Personnel Management
  • The Industrial Society
  • Institute of Directors
  • British Institute of Management
  • The Retail Consortium
  • Local Authorities' Conditions of Service Advisory Board
  • Association of County Councils
  • Association of District Councils
  • Association of Metropolitan Authorities

We have also received comments from a number of other interested bodies, and would welcome any further comments.
