§ 53. Mr. Pittasked the Secretary of State for Transport if he will take steps to assist in compensating innocent drivers involved, through no fault of their own, in accidents with non-insured drivers.
§ Mrs. ChalkerPayment of compensation to victims of uninsured drivers is already safeguarded by virtue of the long standing agreement between my right hon. Friend and the Motor Insurers' Bureau under which it is required to meet any unsatisfied judgment in respect of a liability which is required to be covered by insurance. A further agreement provides for compensation for victims of untraced drivers. I believe these agreements provide suitable assistance as a back-up to compulsory insurance requirements.
