§ Mr. Meacherasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will set up an inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the death by hanging of James Heather-Hayes, at Ashford remand centre on 7 July, since the coroner's inquest jury returned a verdict on 21 October of death through lack of care on the grounds that although he exhibited all the Home Office criteria for suicide risks the warning signs laid down in the Home Office standing orders had been ignored; and if he will consider changes in the monitoring of these procedures to prevent any repetition.
§ Mr. MayhewWe shall consider the transcript of the inquest when it is available.
