§ 23. Mr. Shersbyasked the Minister for Trade if he will challenge the validity under Community law of the decision of the French Government to insist that all trade documentation must be in the French language; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. Peter ReesMy right hon. and noble Friend expressed his serious concern to the French Minister for External Trade last Friday. The precise details of how this measure is to be applied are not yet clear, nor whether it will extend to British or other Community exports to France. The Commission has sought details and I understand it is to take action against the French Government under article 169 of the Treaty of Rome. We shall of course continue to monitor the situation closely.
