HC Deb 28 May 1982 vol 24 cc449-50W
Mr. Flannery

asked the Secretary of State for Transport if he will discuss the implications of flexible rostering for British Railways' future investment needs with the chairman of the Railways Board.

Mr. David Howell

I meet the chairman of the Railways Board frequently to discuss a variety of current issues. On the implications of flexible rostering for rail investment I would commend to the hon. Member what Lord McCarthy said in the recent Railways Staffs National Tribunal report: Unless progress is made on this question the future outlook for the railway system and railwaymen is bleak and unpromising".
