§ Mr. Geoffrey FinsbergIn 1979—the first year for which figures are available centrally—there were 292 first admissions to mental illness hospitals and psychiatric departments of general hospitals. The provisional figure for 1980 is 331. Figures for 1981 are not yet available. Patients are also treated in non-psychiatric wards where statistics are collected on a different basis.
