HC Deb 26 May 1982 vol 24 c348W
35. Mr. Douglas

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will give details of the methods employed by his Department to assess the numbers of the population of Scotland by age and by sex in the age groups 65 to 70 years, 71 to 75 years, 76 to 80 years and 81 years and over.

Mr. John MacKay

The Registrar General for Scotland updates his previous year's estimates by allowing for the ageing of the population, the deaths which have occurred and the net effect of migration. He also adjusts the base population using information from the census of population as it becomes available.
