Mr. James Callaghanasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what steps he will take to expedite the hearing of the appeal of Mr. S. P. Teoh against deportation from the United Kingdom, considering that he has been waiting five months for the appellate hearing, that the delay is causing him considerable financial hardship and distress and that he was born in the British Straits Settlements, but the Malaysian authorities will not return his passport to him.
§ Mr. WhitelawMr. Teoh has lodged an appeal against the refusal to revoke or vary his leave to remain in the United Kingdom. The Home Office submitted the explanatory statement to the independent appellate authority on 25 March with a request for an early hearing. The appellate authority has arranged for the case to be heard in Bristol on 17 June.
