§ Mr. McTaggartasked the Secretary of State for Scotland if his Department will undertake research on whether there is any relationship between the level of infant mortality in Scotland and the level of female unemployment.
§ Mr. John MacKayMy Department has no specific proposals to undertake such research. However it currently supports a number of research projects designed to study the wider aspects of infant mortality. In recent years there has been a notable decline in the infant mortality rate in Scotland and this encouraging trend continues to be closely monitored.
