§ Mr. Moyleasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what representations have been made by Her Majesty's Government to the Indonesian Government, and through what channels, with a view to securing a resolution of the future government of East Timor.
§ Mr. RifkindThe future of East Timor is a matter which concerns the Governments of Portugal and Indonesia in the first instance. The latter are well aware of our position on East Timor, but we take all appropriate opportunities, including the ministerial discussions we have from time to time, to remind the Indonesian Government of this.
§ Mr. Moyleasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what is the policy of Her Majesty's Government towards proposals for settlement of the future of East Timor.
§ Mr. RifkindWe would naturally welcome constructive proposals for the settlement of the future of East Timor, but we continue to believe that this is an issue best pursued in the first instance between the Indonesian and Portuguese Governments.
