HC Deb 17 May 1982 vol 24 c40W
Mr. Campbell-Savours

asked the Secretary of State for Employment how many persons, both male and female, were placed in employment by the Workington jobcentre in the last month for which statistics are available.

Mr. Peter Morrison

Workington jobcentre placed 192 people—125 men and 67 women—in the four week period ending April 1982, the latest date for which statistics are available. There is likely to have been a substantial number of people who found jobs in the area other than through the jobcentre. Nationally, the Manpower Services Commission has estimated from a 1977 survey that about a quarter of all placings are made through its offices.
