HC Deb 17 May 1982 vol 24 c49W
Mr. George Robertson

asked the Secretary of State for Transport if he has any plans to increase the registration fees for approved driving instructors; and if he will make a statement.

Mrs. Chalker

We have recently proposed the following increases:

New fee Existing fee
£ £
Written examination 25 15
Practical examination 60 35
Initial four year registration 50 30
Subsequent four year registration 60 35
Trainee licence (valid for six months) 45 25

The existing fees were fixed in October 1978 to recover 50 per cent. of the cost of running the register of approved driving instructors. The new fees are the first stage in a move to full cost recovery. The driving instructors' associations and other interested bodies are being consulted about the proposals.
