§ 41. Mr. Thomas Coxasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what help has been given to the Somalia Government towards the cost of helping displaced people now living in that country.
§ Mr. Neil MartenIn 1981–82 we provided aid for refugee relief for Somalia totalling about £3 million. This comprised a £1 million contribution to the United Nations High Commission for Refugees; 15,250 tonnes of cereals food aid worth approximately £1.8 million; £140,000 of disaster relief; and a contribution of £125,000 to the voluntary agency Action Aid. We also contributed to the substantial food and emergency aid provided by the European Community.
