§ Mr. Parryasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what restrictions there are upon children from the dependent territories, whose parents are resident in those territories, attending maintained schools; and whether any steps are taken by Her Majesty's Government to inform local education authorities or maintained schools of these restrictions.
§ Dr. BoysonProposed entry to a maintained school is not a qualification under the immigration rules for admission to this country. However, regardless of nationality or status under those rules, any child present in this country is entitled to attend a maintained school unless the likely shortness of stay renders this impracticable or not in the child's educational interests. The position is set out fully in the annex to the Department's circular 1/81.
