HC Deb 31 March 1982 vol 21 c144W
Mr. Murphy

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what is the estimated cost of the tenants exchange scheme for public sector tenants.

Mr. Stanley

The Supply Estimates for 1982–83 provide—subhead B4 in the Department of the Environment Central Administration and Environmental Research Vote, Class VIII, 5—for direct expenditure by the Department of the Environment of £200,000 in 1982–83 by way of payments to a computer bureau for the operation of a national exchange scheme for public sect or tenants. The corresponding Welsh Office Vote—subhead G3 in Class XVI, 1—provides £11,000. In addition, costs will be incurred on providing publicity for the scheme. These costs will be covered from within the provisions for the Department's publicity expenditure. Pending parliamentary approval to the relevant Estimates, the costs of the schemes will be met by repayable advances from the Contingencies Fund. The total drawing from the fund will not exceed £100,000 for England and £5,000 for Wales.
