§ Mr. Pavittasked the Lord Privy Seal (1) what is the Government's policy towards recommendation 934 (1982) of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe on genetic engineering;
(2) if the Government will support in the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe the proposals that a European agreement be elaborated on what constitutes legitimate application to human beings of the techniques of genetic engineering and that the European convention for the protection of human rights and fundamental freedoms be enlarged in scope to include recognition of the right to a genetic inheritance which has not been artificially interfered with.
§ Mr. Humphrey AtkinsRecommendation 934 (1982) is still under consideration. A number of Government Departments is involved in different aspects of the subject.
