§ Mr. NewtonThe quarterly analysis of registered unemployed claimants at February 1981, a copy of which is in the Library of the House, shows that of the 294,000 then receiving neither unemployment nor the supplementary benefit 105,000 had exhausted their entitlement to unemployment benefit and 126,000 had not yet had their unemployment benefit claim determined. No breakdown is available of the reasons why the remaining 63,000 were256W not entitled to unemployment benefit; and comparable information about entitlement to supplementary allowances is not collected.
A more detailed analysis of reasons for non-payment of unemployment benefit to claimants in November 1980 is given in table 4 of the half-yearly summary of statistics of unemployment benefit claimants, a copy of which is also in the Library. Because of the effects of industrial action, that is the latest date for which such an analysis is available.
