§ Mr. Cryerasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer in what circumstances confidential personal information held by his Department is supplied to other Departments of State.
§ Mr. Ridley[pursuant to his reply, 16 March 1982, c. 62]: The only Departments for which I am responsible which have systematic access to personal information about the private citizen are the Inland Revenue and the Customs and Excise. These Departments do not supply that information to other Departments except where authorised by law or where the individual to whom the information relates consents to such disclosure.
