§ Sir George YoungThe new towns have now been notified of their capital expenditure allocations for 1982–83. As towns approach the end of their planned development, the need for further public investment diminishes. The total capital expenditure programme for 1982–83 will be about £200 million, compared with some £270 million in the current year.
