§ Q54. Mr. Stan Thorneasked the Prime Minister if she will seek a meeting with President Reagan to discuss with him a British contribution of compensation to those who have suffered from cancer arising from British nuclear tests in the Utah Valley, United States of America.
§ The Prime MinisterNo British atmospheric nuclear tests have ever been carried out in the Utah Valley area. Since the early 1960s underground tests have been carried out by the United States on our behalf at the nearby Nevada test site, but these have not resulted in the release of any radioactive material into the atmosphere. The question of compensation by the British Government therefore does not arise.
