Mr. DenzilDavies asked the Secretary of State for Defence what is the total number of redundancy payments payable to employees in respect of the proposed closure of (a) the Chatham dockyard, (b) the Gibraltar dockyard and (c) the proposed rundown of the Portsmouth dockyard.
§ Mr. PattieIt is not possible to say at this stage what the total amount of redundancy payments might be. The amount will depend upon the age, length of service, pay levels and other circumstances of those employees who eventually become redundant.
