§ Mr. Newensasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will raise the threshold for the payment of tax in order to exclude those retirement pensioners who are liable on small pensions for which they or their spouses made contributions during their working lives.
§ Mr. RidleyAs a result of the personal allowance increases in the Budget, about 150,000 fewer pensioners will pay tax in 1982–83 than in 1981–82. The majority of these are people with occupational pensions, or earnings-related additions to State pensions, as well as basic State pension.
