§ 56. Mr. Eggarasked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will review his policy towards the 397W entitlement of unemployed individuals wishing to take full-time educational courses to be eligible for unemployment benefit while studying on those courses.
§ Mr. NewtonA person attending a full-time course of education would be able to receive unemployment benefit, only if he could convince the statutory authorities that he satisfied the availability for work rule, which is a fundamental condition for the receipt of unemployment benefit. We have at present no plans to change the rules of eligibility for unemployment benefit for people in this position.
