§ 29. Mr. Farrasked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what has been the outcome of his representations to the European Economic Community in relation to special French Government subsidy to farmers of £510 million.
§ Mr. Peter WalkerAt the meeting of the Agriculture Council on 15–16 February the Commission reported that France had still not supplied full details of the £510 million aid package. The Commission threatened to take legal action if these were not forthcoming. The French promised to provide the necessary information. I secured a declaration from the Commission that any payments made before clearance by the Commission would be illegal.
