§ Mr. Murphyasked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will take steps to give housing association tenants residing in properties which are leasehold the right to buy their homes.
§ Mr. StanleyI refer to the reply given to my hon. Friend the Member for Dartford (Mr. Dunn) by my right hon. Friend the Prime Minister on 11 February 1982—[Vol. 17, c. 1111]. The extension of the right to buy those living in properties where the landlord does not own the freehold, which is under consideration, would apply to secure tenants of all landlords subject to the right to buy, which includes some housing associations. Housing associations like local authorities already have a discretionary power to sell to sitting tenants where their interest is leasehold, subject to the terms of the lease and to the consent of the Housing Corporation.
