(2) if he will take steps to ban the import of all tyres into the United Kingdom which do not carry a clearly legible maximum speed marking; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. Kenneth ClarkeAt the moment, no Departmental staff are employed to check imported tyres before they are sold. I am urgently considering the need for changes in our regulations to require replacement tyres to meet the appropriate international safety standards, which include maximum speed markings.
