§ Mr. Nicholas Wintertonasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will study the operation of the practice by certain police forces of designating certain areas or premises as racially sensitive, with special regard to (a) the efficacy of the practice in the prevention of crime and (b) the operation of the principle of equality before law; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. WhitelawIt is in the interests of effective law enforcement for special precautions to be taken in respect of certain premises and localities, which may in some cases be those of the ethnic minorities. I know that chief officers are determined to enforce the law firmly and impartially.
