HC Deb 02 March 1982 vol 19 cc103-4W
Mr. William Hamilton

asked the Secretary of State for Employment what has been the increase in the number of staff in his Department engaged on unemployment benefit in each of the last three years; and what increase is visualised for the year 1982–83.

Mr. Waddington

The changes in total—permanent and casual—staff engaged on unemployment benefit work in each of the last three years were as follows:

Change
1 April 1979 to 1 April 1980 -2,229
1 April 1980 to 1 April 1981 +6,249
1 April 1981 to 1 April 1982 (estimated) +5,695

I cannot anticipate publication of the 1982–83 Supply Estimates.
