§ Mr. Teddy Taylorasked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if Her Majesty's Government will be seeking compensation from Denmark following the action of that country in extracting 11,000 tons of herring from the North Sea under the terms of an agreement which permitted Denmark to extract 1,000 tons.
§ Mr. Buchanan-SmithThe herring quotas proposed by the European Commission for the Southern North Sea for 1981–82 were not agreed by the Council of Ministers and in the view of Her Majesty's Government therefore have no legal force. The question of compensation, consequently, does not arise. However, we deplore the unsatisfactory behaviour by Denmark in this fishery and have made our views known.
