§ Mr. McNamaraasked the Secretary of State for Defence what is the present estimated unit cost of the T2400 submarine.
§ Mr. PattieIt is not the practice to reveal precise unit costs in advance of placing an order. Costs depend on the outcome of detailed negotiations between the Ministry of Defence and contractors, and it is not possible to give a firm figure until the contract negotiations are complete. However, our aim is that the unit cost of the T2400 submarine should be less than half that of a new nuclear submarine.
