asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many people were in receipt of supplementary benefit in the city of Manchester and Greater Manchester, respectively, at the latest date for which figures are available; and what were the figures at the same date in 1979.

However, the numbers of people claiming supplementary benefit from the local offices in the city of Manchester and Greater Manchester, at February 1979 and February 1982, the latest available date, are given below. These offices may also cover people who live outside the areas concerned.
