HC Deb 28 June 1982 vol 26 c236W
Mr. Teddy Taylor

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what endeavours his Department is making to encourage balanced and healthy nutritional diets.

Mr. Geoffrey Finsberg

In 1978 the Department published "Eating for Health", one of the series of discussion papers flowing from the publication of the consultative document "Prevention and health—Everybody's Business". "Eating for Health" was prepared as a contribution to nutrition education for the public and doctors and other health professionals who are in a position to influence attitudes to diet. It is used as a source document by the Health Education Council, whose "Look After Yourself' campaign is designed to publicise the health benefits of such things as sensible eating and drinking.

The Department also produces reports on more detailed aspects of nutrition. These result from the deliberations of the Committee on Medical Aspects of Food Policy which advises the chief medical officer on matters concerned with nutrition and public health.
