§ Mr. Arnoldasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will estimate the cost of setting up and maintaining prosecuting solicitors' departments in the 10 remaining police force areas which do not have departments.
§ Mr. MayhewWe cannot at present offer any better estimate than that provided for the Royal Commission on criminal procedure in its research study No. 12, published by Her Majesty's Stationery Office in 1980. We recognise that the results of that study ought in due course to be updated and, if possible, refined.
