Mr. Christopher Price

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department (1) if he will list in the Official Report the number of cases and civil actions brought against the Metropolitan Police Commissioner for damages and compensation resulting from (a) damage to personal property and possessions, (b) wrongful and false imprisonment and (c) malicious prosecution as a result of Metropolitan Police operations for the years 1978, 1979, 1980 and 1981;

(2) if he will list in the Official Report the amounts of compensation paid out for the years 1978, 1979, 1980 and 1981, as a result of successful civil actions against the Metropolitan Police Commissioner for (a) damage to personal property and possessions, (b) wrongful and false imprisonment and (c) malicious prosecution.

The information readily available about payments made in the years 1978 to 1980 for damages in settlement of claims arising from the wrongful act of a Metropolitan police officer is as follows:
