What steps they are taking to detect and prevent counterfeiting of the new £1 coin.

The Secretary of State for Trade (Lord Cockfield)

To reveal the steps that will be taken in order to detect and prevent counterfeits of the new £1 coin when it is produced in April 1983 would be of assistance to potential counterfeiters. It would not, therefore, be in the public interest to reveal that information.
