Mr. Jim Callaghanasked the Secretary of State for Employment what special studies are being made of the training of girls in the 16 to 19 years age group for skilled work in industry.
§ Mr. Peter MorrisonSeveral studies and pilot initiatives are under way which examine issues related to training for girls in this age group. A project funded by the Department of Employment in co-operation with the engineering ITB is investigating the experience of girls on 39W operator training schemes and girls undertaking technician's training. The Manpower Services Commission is funding an action research project to examine ways of widening opportunities for girls within the youth opportunities programme. Some further studies are being supported by the Social Science Research Council and the Equal Opportunities Commission.
