§ Mr. MayhewPolice force establishments are kept under review by chief officers, police authorities and Her Majesty's inspectors of constabulary. Police authorities are responsible for fixing the authorised establishment of force, subject to my right hon. Friend's approval; and eight police authorities have recently been informed that my right hon. Friend is prepared to approve additional posts for 1982–83.
