HC Deb 15 June 1982 vol 25 c253W
28. Mr. Ioan Evans

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will make a statement on the reduction in spending on aids for the disabled between 1978–79 and 1980–81.

Mr. Rossi

Expenditure on aids provided by the DHSS directly to disabled people has increased from £42.226 million in 1978–79 to £51.998 million in 1980–81—all at November 1980 prices—an increase of over 23 per cent.

Over the same period expenditure by local authorities in the provision of aids fell from £6.3 million to £5.1 million but the number of cases they assisted rose from 237,372 to 262,109.
