HC Deb 08 June 1982 vol 25 c49W
Mr. Craigen

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will instruct Greater Glasgow health board to consider the appointment of a third consultant rheumatologist to the Baird Street centre for rheumatic diseases in view of the high increase of rheumatism and arthritis in the Glasgow area; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. John MacKay

No. The health board keeps its total consultant establishment under continuous review. Treatment of patients suffering from rheumatism and arthritis may be undertaken by consultants in general medicine, rehabilitation and orthopaedic surgery in addition to rheumatologists.
