§ Mr. Wheelerasked the Secretary of State for Transport if he has yet heard from the Greater London Council as to the proposals that authority has in respect of London Transport; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. David HowellIn response to my letters to him making clear that I expect the GLC to plan on the basis of a continuing sensible level of resources, Mr. Livingstone has told me that he is preparing a plan. But in the light of last week's reiterated and unwarranted GLC threats about further massive fare increases, presumably calculated to alarm the public and demoralise London Transport, it remains to be seen whether the GLC is indeed seriously getting down to its responsibilities to secure better and cheaper bus and tube services within the substantial resources available.
