HC Deb 08 June 1982 vol 25 c64W
Dr. Glyn

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services, in view of the local feeling regarding the proposed closure of the casualty unit of the King Edward VII hospital, Windsor, if he will ensure that, in the event of local objections, the closure will not be effected without his consent.

Mr. Kenneth Clarke

In accordance with the procedures we have laid down for health authorities to follow when proposing the closure or change of use of health facilities, the East Berkshire health authority is now consulting interested parties on its proposal to close the accident and emergency department at King Edward VII hospital at Windsor. If there is disagreement with the local community health council my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State will be called upon to consider the health authority's final proposals. If this proposal comes to Ministers for decision under these procedures, we shall of course, give most careful consideration to the views of local people.
