§ 27. Mr. Allan Robertsasked the Secretary of State for Employment if he will introduce a work experience scheme which would guarantee to students at polytechnics on engineering and other similar sandwich courses the placements required for them to fulfil the requirements of their course.
§ Mr. Peter MorrisonIn 1982–83 the Manpower Services Commission will make grants available to employers to assist some 2,500 sandwich course students in securing industrial placements. This compares with 2,000 students who received similar support in 1981–82, the additional placements being entirely in respect of engineering and applied technology subjects. However, the primary responsibility for maintaining an adequate supply of suitable placements must remain with industry.
