HC Deb 08 June 1982 vol 25 c24W
Mr. Kenneth Lewis

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, in view of the reference made by the steering group on food freshness to the need for a code of practice on the handling of chilled foods, what progress has been made towards provision of guidance on this matter.

Mr. Peter Walker

The Institute of Food Science and Technology of the United Kingdom has today published guidelines for the handling of chilled foods. The document offers comprehensive and valuable advice on the maintenance of quality and freshness to all those concerned with the storage and handling of chilled foods from the point of harvest and manufacture to consumption. I am grateful to the institute for undertaking the development and publication of this work, which has involved the close co-operation and assistance of a wide range of interested parties over the last three years.
